Dr Groenewald is a gynaecologist practising in Claremont, Cape Town, with a particular interest in endometriosis, pelvic pain, fibroids and minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. After graduating from the University of Stellenbosch, he trained in the major tertiary hospitals of the Western Cape and completed his specialist training through the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital.
He is one of the first South African gynaecologists to gain accreditation from the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy as a certified minimally invasive gynaecological surgeon, a qualification that reflects years spent refining laparoscopic technique specifically for conditions such as endometriosis.
Dr Groenewald continues to work in academic medicine as a sessional specialist at Groote Schuur Hospital, where he supervises and mentors gynaecologists in training, and he has lectured at gynaecological congresses in South Africa and internationally.

His approach centres on listening carefully before recommending a path forward, whether that path is medication and hormonal management or surgery. Endometriosis often takes years to diagnose properly, and Dr Groenewald works on the basis that a clear explanation of what is happening, and why, matters as much as the treatment itself.
Consultations are structured to give your symptoms room to be described fully, rather than fitted into a short standard appointment. Where surgery is appropriate, the same attention to detail carries through into planning the procedure and explaining recovery, so that little is left unclear before the day itself. If you have questions about your own symptoms, get in touch to arrange a consultation.
